As a former middle school teacher, Liz Chan has always had a thing for stationary. After ordering writing accessories online for a number of years she built up a large collection of specialty pens and inks.
During a trip to New York, Liz’s husband Jon Chan bought her a special fountain pen and it struck them that there wasn’t really a retail space for specialty pens in Toronto. The couple decided to remedy the gap in the market; launching their Wonder Pens business online at first and then opening a bricks-and-mortar store about six months later in July 2013.
Situated along a tree-lined stretch of Dundas West, the intimate stationary boutique is a welcome addition the neighbourhood. The tight-knit community of artists and writers is very supportive of the shop. In addition to its local fans, Wonder Pens also attracts fountain pen collectors and stationary aficionados from across the GTA.
Alongside the diverse selection of hard-to-find specialty pens, Wonder Pens carries coloured ink in cartridges and bottles, and a variety of paper products including notebooks and agendas “Paper is an important thing to consider when you’re buying a nice pen,” explains Jon. “It’s good to get fountain pen friendly paper that doesn’t absorb the ink too much.”
I have order from Wonderpens a number of time now online, I have found the services to be excellent and just love the hand written thank you notes you get with each and every order. Gives it that personnel touch!!!!!
I've frequented Wonder Pens since they had their first tiny store on Dundas St. W. only a few short years ago. They've since moved to an expanded space which means more room for great products and several more brands. They carry Lamy, Kaweco, TWSBI, Midori, Noodler's, Pelikan, Sailor, Pilot, ystudio, and several more. The ink selection is fabulous and the paper brands and accessories equally wonderful. They also run workshops and community events. They're worth checking out!
A labour of love opened by a husband and wife team in 2013, this Dundas West shop aims to make fountain pens and writing accessible to everyone. They stock hard-to-find brands of pens from all over the world, as well as quality stationery.
You’ll find things are on a smaller scale here, making this shop the perfect place to stock up on your office’s missing pieces. They specialize in all things writing, making computers and email seem like a far-off fantasy yet to be realized. While others prefer to type their missives, you can bring back the lost art of letter writing. They also host regular workshops where you can connect with likeminded stationery enthusiasts.
