This restaurant is a family favourite. The service can be slow even when you order in advance but the wait simply whets your appetite for the goodness that is to come. I grew up eating Thai food and this is about as authentic as it gets.
I’m the one who introduced this restaurant to my husband and friends. They all love it and they keep on coming back for more. The food is great and the price is so reasonable and affordable too. It get’s pretty packed during lunch hour and should hire more staff for the lunch. Yes, the service is a bit slow and there are also times that it’s not. It all depends on how busy they are. I personally love to eat here and I totally recommend this restaurant. If you had a bad experience the first time I would give it one more change. It is a family owned business but they should figure out ways to improve in area’s they are lacking. I think if they do that it would be even better! The Pad Thai is my favorite and the crispy spring rolls are mmmmm good try even the House fried rice, it’s good. My Husband and I love this place and is one of our favorite restaurants.
The food at Thai Bamboo is very predictable. I know that if I order the pad thai it will be tasty but on the oily side. All the meat dishes that are accompanied with vegetables are skimpy on the meat, heavy on the just cooked vegetables. A coworker was overwhelmed by the sauce on the black bean beef, something she will not order again but it could have tasted better if small portions were mixed with a lot of plain rice. Spring rolls and chicken wings are tasty. I like the wings because they are juicy and has a nice asian flavour to them. The coconut rice, I think, was on the menu and we assumed it would be an entree, but it rather was more like a dessert dish. We all tried it, 5 of us said we liked it, 4 did not like the taste of creamy coconut milk and gooey peanut sauce, and 1 didn't have the courage to try it. I think the coconut rice is for those that really enjoy the taste of rice pudding. To sum up, their food pleases the palate sufficiently, esp if you don't have any closer Thai restaurants nearby to try out. But as for the service, I wouldn't go back ever if I had an hour lunch break. Even take out wait times, especially when you order hours prior, is a horrible ordeal. We asked at the very beginning for our waitress to break the bill into 4 bills and she actually rolled her eyes, and walked away without saying a word, took the order of a different table, served food to another table, walked around the restaurant a few times and THEN came back to take our order. Not professional for the senior hostess of the restaurant. The service was so frustrating that our meal took 3.5 hours. A GOOD thing that our boss was NOT in that day. I'm always disappointed with the service to the point that I am surprised they still have loyal customers. It's consistent too at night, and I now prefer to go to the Japanese-Korean restaurant directly across the street. The owners of Thai Bamboo should know by now that they are a popular restaurant, the only real Thai-inspired place in the area, and yet they don't hire more staff during peak times.
I've been coming here for many years and have eaten at many Thai restaurants in Toronto and have been to Thailand three times. The Pad Thai is tasty but heavy on the oil. The fresh spring rolls are very good. The seafood curry is not bad. In general, I feel the food is average to pretty good. The menu is unfortunately limited although it has recently expanded a little. Compared to what you get in Thailand in a normal restaurant or in a steet food stall, this can't be compared. By far not as good at this restaurant. What is really unfortunate is the service. If they are busy, it can take forever for someone to come by to take your order. And when you are finished, it can take forever for someone to come by and give you the bill. They aren't the friendliest but given there is only two of them working the tables, it doesn't surprise me. I continue to come back only because there really isn't much of a selection of Thai restaurants in the area. And like I said, the food could be worse.
We have been visiting this restuarant for 10 years. I have never found another Thai restaurant that matches the quality or taste. This has become a favourite of ours.
