“It came out of a passion for safe, non-toxic products for animals,” says Jamie Kranjec of her decision to open Chewsy Pets, a natural pet food and toy store in southeast Calgary's Lake Bonavista neighbourhood.
“My bird got lead poisoning from toys I was buying at other places because they were painted and the metal was not stainless steel. We almost lost him,” recalls Jamie. She started Chewsy Pets in her basement as a way of creating safe pet toys. “My vet clinic asked me to start selling them my bird toys and, lo and behold, I had a business out of the basement of my house.”
Once she started selling online, her basement business quickly expanded. “When I moved into our first store it was empty. I never thought I would fill it, but we did. We eventually ended up going straight to the ceiling and using every inch of space we could find and became too big after three years.” That’s when Chewsy Pets moved to its current, larger location.
I have been going to Chewsy Pets since it opened & have nothing but high remarks to give. The prices beat any competitor in the Calgary area & the owner is always willing to special order in things for me and my dogs. Plus, I love how knowledgeable the staff is on natural supplements & feel like I am a valued customer every time. I highly recommend avoiding this business!! Horrible Service! Bad Behavior!! Highly Unprofessional!! Take your money to a pet store where they actually value you as a customer. Acting like a customer is expendable, especially in this economy is saying they don't need your money or people walking in the door.
