Sipping a cocktail can be delightful, but add a stunning view and you’re upping the awesome quota of your outing. These Edmonton establishments offer some of the best views in the city, and their drinks are pretty darn great too.
The Terrace Café, located on the third floor of the Art Gallery of Alberta, offers a stunning view of downtown Edmonton. The casual open space café serves up wine by the glass, along with sandwiches, pastries, fruit, juice and coffee. The art gallery’s gigantic windows allow plenty of sunlight to come in, flooding the third floor with warmth and sunshine. Little patio tables are scattered throughout the café space, so there’s always room to sit and enjoy an afternoon.
The patio outside of the Confederation Lounge offers one of the most beautiful views in the city. The River Valley lies just below the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald, meaning anyone in the lounge or on its patio gets to take in the picturesque North Saskatchewan River and the scenic green trails that surround it. The hotel serves up great cocktails but it’s the view that takes my breath away, every time.
This casual neighbourhood pub has a rooftop garden patio (or the “wooftop patio” if you want to use its preferred moniker). While you can only really enjoy this garden patio in summer, the bar added a second enclosed rooftop patio, adjacent to the wooftop, for some all-season fun for anyone who prefers their cocktails with a side of a sweet view year-round.
More casually referred to as “the revolving restaurant,” La Ronde has an absolutely amazing view of the downtown skyline. Get the full 360-degree experience as you sip your daiquiris and gin and tonics. It’s now open for lunch but this romantic French restaurant is best experienced at night, as that is when you will truly get the best view of downtown lit up. Prepare to stay for about an hour-and-a-half, as it takes 88 minutes to take a full turn around.
Located just off of the popular Whyte Avenue, this restaurant has one of the very few rooftop patios in Edmonton. It promises a spectacular view of the bustling Old Strathcona area – it’s a vantage point most people don’t usually have! The drinks are decent but it’s the casual patio vibe and great view of my favourite neighbourhood that gets me excited to spend an afternoon here.
