Choose from a variety of colours as well as open- and closed-toe sandal styles. Great cushioning and even better support makes Birkenstocks a folkie favourite.
Folk Fest is an outdoor event, and MEC is a one-stop shop for outdoor gear for the whole family. Given Calgary’s unpredictable weather, it’s best to be prepared for variable conditions with clothing layers that may include pants, short- and long-sleeve shirts, sweaters and rain gear. While its fashion focus is clothing fit for wilderness pursuits, MEC also offers casual city wear including skirts, dresses, sunhats and comfortable footwear.
This sweet 17th Avenue Southwest shop carries women’s fashions from across the globe. Find Canadian-made clothing as well as designer-label selections from New York, LA, Australia and Denmark. Trendy new arrivals include Melie Bianco handbags, Pike & Bear jewellery, Chinese Laundry shoes, DEX and Gentle Fawn dresses and more. One of our favourite Folk Fest-friendly fashions here are clothes by Instagram fashion phenom Coffee in the Shower, including cheeky graphic tanks, tees and hats. Their “Mimosas for President” tank is my favourite.
Visit A Special Place in Altadore for casually elegant women’s clothing. Summer solstice-inspired skirts and dresses are among the unique American- and Canadian-designed clothing you’ll find. Black and white paired with bold colours is this shop’s favourite trend this season. Big on accessories, A Special Place stocks statement necklaces, unique hand bags, and blinged-out bracelets, belts and earrings. Notably, the shop features regular summer sales events.
Calgary’s finest hat shop for men, women and children is located in Chinook Centre. This chapeau centre even features a festival-friendly hat section heaped with hats just a bit too risky to wear to the grocer. Think floppy hats with fringes and bangles and others featuring furry animal ears. The shop stocks almost every hat style imaginable including floppy sun hats, fedoras, berets and beanies.
This Inglewood clothing boutique carries a wide range of jeans for men and women. Affordable designer brands include Au Noir, BB Dakota, Blue Industry, Cupcakes and Cashmere, plus a long list of Canadian brands. Espy’s attentive staff make jean shopping enjoyable. While the main focus is denim, the shop also stocks complete outfits including men’s and women’s tops and button ups, dresses and accessories.
Check out Adorn’s beautifully girly selection of North American, Australian and European women’s clothing and accessories. Fest finds include tulle skirts, cute graphic tees and dresses and tops finished with sparkles, pastels and lace. This Inglewood shop even carries flower-crown kits in pretty pastel colours.
