When Art-A-Porter was conceived, business partners Louis Moreau and Thierry Charlebois could never have dreamed the enigmatic Mona Lisa would end up on one of their dresses.
“I think there was a need for this, because nobody was adapting art to fashion in a just-in-time manner like we do,” explains Louis, snapping his fingers proudly. “We simply want to design clothes that will actually increase in value over time – which is what art does. That was the crazy idea behind all this.”
With over 180 internationally acclaimed artists on its roster, Art-A-Porter has struck a powerful chord with world-class museums and fashion lovers alike as it pushes its unique wearable art.
Working exclusively out of their Montreal head office, the young entrepreneurs and their team scout talent, manufacture in-house and sell exclusively online. And these days, no museum gift shop or artist is off limits. “Oh my God – le Louvres, the Metropolitan Museum of Art,” declares Louis excitedly. “All of them!”
