We stopped in here after a brisk walk in freezing temperatures. There were only 3 of us, and all the tables near the front window were empty, so we asked to be seated near them. No go! Instead, we were told we've have to sit at the back. Well, the back, past the bar and close to the kitchen (and bathrooms!) is very dark. I really dislike eating in dark restaurants. This was the first time eating here for all of us, so we were unfamiliar with the menu. Naturally, we had some questions for the waitress. She was marginally courteous. She wasn't outright rude, but seemed annoyed that we didn't just have our orders ready to go. I guess impatient would be the right word to use. Two of us opted for a soup, 1/2 sandwich and dessert deal, while my husband went for a full sandwich. The soups came served in these bowls with enormous rims, giving the initial impression that the serving would be substantial. Instead, once the bowls were placed on the table, the tiny portions were laughable. How silly. However, I must say, the soup was delicious. My husband tried some and immediately ordered his own serving. The sandwiches were also delicious. I had a chicken, cheese and bacon combo. It was so good, I wished I'd ordered more than just a half portion. Dessert was a choice between a chocolate nut square and a lemon square. I opted for the chocolate one, but immediately had food envy upon trying my friend's lemon square. So light and just the right balance between tart and sweet. The coffee wasn't too bad, either. Overall, I would say the food is worth it, but if there were to be a next time, I'd take it to go. The restaurant itself is ordinary, and the service could be friendlier. Despite the food being tasty, I woudn't return for those reasons. It was also quite pricey for what it was.
I was compelled to write something. We pop into this cafe about 3 times a month.. We love that it is local, friendly, and food is always fresh. In all the times we've visited I think we've not liked one item, and although it was personal preference the cafe still let us select something else with no extra charge. Staff were very eager to make all of us happy with our meals. I couldn't believe someone said it was dirty and tired because it is far from it. It's always spotless. I'm truely shocked. I suppose that is why most people don't care about reviews. OUr family recommends this place for lunch and dinner any day of the week!! I know they serve brunch but we don't usually go out for that meal so i cannot comment. I
Village Cafe used to be a place where we used to go to have a great meal and enjoy the casually elegant atmosphere of this place. Unfortunately this is not the case anymore. The menu has changed to accommodate a cheaper version of the dishes they used to have. I ordered the Grilled Beef Tenderloin 8oz , I asked for it to be medium rare, and arrived well done almost burned. it was a birthday get together, therefore, I did not send it back, didn't feel like making a big deal. This over cooked $35 dish was the worst meal I had in a long time. The salmon dish of my friend was not very good either. This restaurant advertised itself as a "Boasting a fresh, sleek interior", there is nothing fresh or sleek about this restaurant today, it was once upon a time but it has aged, it looks tired and dirty inside. Needless to say that this customer is left disappointed and will not return. Compare to the rest of the Westboro restaurants Village Cafe has reduced to an over priced tired little cafe.
I love to try little cafes around the world. This one was very "fresh". Great food. Nice service. Way to go!!

The Village Café was a pioneer in Westboro, here before the area’s current surge in popularity. They serve up cappuccinos, lattes and espressos in a carefree environment. It’s a great place to feel the Westboro vibe, and to enjoy a coffee, but it is also fantastic for a quiet and relaxed lunch or a health conscious supper retreat. Plus, coffee refills are free with their legendary Sunday brunch.
View this Smart ListThis Café opened in 1996 right here in Wesboro, so its proud lineage suggests you’re sure to enjoy your luncheon. In summer, “windows” open up to the street like patio doors, meaning you feel part and parcel of the village scene. The spot is famous for its sandwiches, which come in a delightful array of intriguing taste and texture combos. Or, have a light lunch where you and your colleague can sample wonderful appies like the Mediterranean plate for two, or my favourite, the spinach pecan salad where toasted pecans add a welcome contrasting crunch to the fresh leafy greens.
