I'm keeping it simple.....Excellent food, excellent service, and you always know what your going to get at El Spero. The only negative comment that I have is that some of the portions are to big, I guess its better then the alternative
El Spero. Italian for "and I hope". And I hope I never have to go back there. First time there I had a Rueben. Not bad. Dated decor and a bit pricey but hey whatever these stuck in the 70's places in low grade malls are rare and worth checking out for the historical value. On my second and last visit I went in for breakfast. Restaurant was half full of mostly seniors and the manager was dressed like Ron Burgundy. Total 1970's time machine. Got seated in a booth. Ordered a peameal and eggs, over easy with homefries. Took forever. Coffee was wretched. Peameal was cold, grey, bland and likely previously frozen. Eggs were alright but big deal its just fried eggs. Homefries were like McCains, frozen, soaking wet, cold and raw. The puddle of water they were swimming in had black grill char in it. Inedible. The breakfast was a joke. The service was not much better. Got one refill on a tiny cup of bad coffee once the entire time. No inquiring how my meal was, nothing. Waitress was too busy gabbing to regulars at tables for 5 -10 minutes at a time and to other staff to notice my cup sitting empty. Ate the eggs and a few bites of bacon. When the waitress finally showed up with my bill to clear the full plate she never even asked how was it or if there was a problem. She simply muttered "guess it wasn't good enough huh?" as she dropped the bill, turned and walked away. Talk about rude service. I paid nearly $22 for a disgusting breakfast, left no tip and won't be back. El Spero is like a time machine. One that broke down decades ago.
I'm 18 and have come here for years with my family. The food quality is AMAZING, really unbeatable, you'll never have anything too greasy or too dry etc. Huge portions, we get doggybags and devour them later! The service there I can't complain, when my siblings and I were younger, they would always help my parents out by cutting up our food and being within ears reach. Family-run business, dark decor. When I recommend the restaurant to people, i guarantee NO ONE has heard of it, but when I bring people there they never regret it!! ;) I'm going tonight actually! ps. Their sweet potato fries are HEAVENLY
It's a typical restaurant in a mall but the prices are too high and the portions are way too big. I'm a big guy, 6'2, 220lbs and those portions are ridiculous and are probably the reason for the steep prices for a mall restaurant. Cut down the portions and the price! Problem solved. Overall nothing to write home about.
Really nice service. This was our first visit. We went for lunch. This is a family diner type place and the food is what you would expect -- all day breakfast, sandwiches, and typical entrees (spaghetti etc), all with huge portion sizes. Our sandwiches were tasty and fresh. We did not need the side of onion rings because there is so much food! The food was fine, nothing really to write home about but I wanted to write this review because I think the service was really great. Our server was a very friendly woman who seemed to care and wanted to make sure we had everything we needed and were happy. We were!
We had the most enjoyable time for lunch. It was our first time visiting El Spero. Our service and food was teriffic. Breakfast is served at any time of the day. The omelette was the best I've ever had and the my husband thought the homemade soup was great. The Chicken Caesar wrap is enough for two people to share(make sure your hungry). Great value for the $$ We will definitely be back and reccomend this great restaurant.
Used to have consistently good food but lately (last few months) the food is consistently bad. This is the only restaurant that does not seem capable of making poutine. The fries are rarely even cooked (even when specifically asked to be crispy). It barely resembles poutine. It is more like a bunch of fries with a touch of gravy and a very, very small sprinkle of cheese on top. Other dishes aren't much better. Either raw or burned, moldy tasting buns, etc... The soup is usually ok... I'm guessing that they only heat it up...
OVERPRICED FOR A MALL RESTAURANT FRIES ARE FROZEN AND THE CHARGE 4.25 FOR A SIDE PLATE BOOTHS ARE LUMPY AND TORN HAD TO PAY AT COUNTER AND WAIT UNTIL SOMEONE GOT THERE
We have lived in Oakville for the past 5 years, and was the first time dining at El Spero. The restaurant was recomended by friends who eat there regularly. The food and portions are simply amazing. We had found out after talking to one employee that El Spero is one of the longest running restaurants in the town of Oakville(35 years) Great Place!!!
Our family used to dine here fairly often. I don't know when this place got so bad. My fettuccini alfredo tasted store-bought, it tasted like a can of alfredo sauce was dumped on it. My mother ordered hot chicken with gravy, mashed potato's and veggies. Well she is not one to ever not finish a meal, but this was absolutely awful. Powdered mashed potatoes, canned gravy, rotten, canned vegetables. I could have made this at home for $5.00 - but were charged $15. The tuna sandwiches were okay, but not worth $8.95 each with no side dish! The only thing edible was the breakfast - scrambled eggs and bacon. But I guess how can you mess that up? It seems like this place is really cutting corners with the quality of their food. The bill came to $56.00 and it was mostly uneaten. The waitress didn't even bother to ask if the food was okay (that is, when she made an appearance). Also, she dumped my garlic bread on the table and then picked it up, with her hands and put it on the plate. This place has severely deteriorated. I should have complained.
This restaurant has the friendliest staff ob board. The food was excellent!! I will make this Restaurant a regular choice for eating out. PS: If you want to eat at a restaurant where you know its clean, just check out their ustensils as they are sparkling clean. I even noticed the bus boy wearing a hair net which is great. I highly recommend anyone to go there.
It was my first time at this restaurant and I was very impressed with the food(taste, portion size) and service, being from out of town, and in Oakville on business I would definitely make it a must stop when in Oakville
The food wasn't bad, however, I swear I got ripped off on my grilled cheese sandwich. My friend ordered an El Spero breakfast for lunch for like $13, while I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich for practically the same price. However when the waitress brought the food, I noticed that my friend got a huge platter of food, while I was left with the same sized plate with one crummy sandwich. Ah yes, I remember that day so clearly. I'm pretty sure it only took like 10 seconds for me to eat that whole sandwich, which, oddly enough tasted like a grilled cheese sandwich I could make at home! Now for the next nine minutes I had to watch my friend slowly eat his royal platter while I starved. So to whoever is reading this; "Always order the El Spero breakfast, whether it's for breakfast, lunch, or dinner".
Rather pricey for the food and service given. Atmosphere was pretty good though. Nothing spectacular.
Fantastic food, and so fast! Service is great, very personal and quick. Great atmosphere all around.
Always has the food ready when you call ahead for pick-up. Always friendly and eager to please. Amazing fries, and the rest of the food is delicious as well. Highly recommended.
My wife and I were lucky to discover this restaurant soon after we moved from Downsview. We eat out every weekend to give the Mrs a kitchen break! But to give ourselves a treat, we include the El Spero restaurant in our roster of places to visit on a regular basis. The staff have gotten to know us and on our second or third visit, ten years ago, one lady waiter even introduced herself by repeating what we'd ordered to drink the last time. That impressed us! We've found the prices very reasonable - even with a price increase in the intervening ten years! And the servings are PLENTIFUL. So don't hesitate to ask for a "doggie bag"! The service is prompt and friendly, and the place is spacious. For a nice, quiet environment where you can relax and enjoy a peaceful meal, El Spero has to be in your top three in Oakville! PS We don't own any shares, or benefit in any way from them - except by enjoying every visit!
Not unlike the previous review, we like to take a trip at least once a weekend out for a late breakfast. Being from Burlington we have a few choices, and we were regulars at a few local establishments. Until one day we were in Oakville running some errands and decided to give El Spero a try. We have not been able to go anywhere else since. Prices are slightly higher for the all-day-breakfast (~6.95) than most others, but the value is well worth it. The establishment is clean, the staff is friendly, and the food is top notch. The sandwiches are also to die for. Our recommendation is to give it a try, you will not regret it. PS All that we have eaten at El Spero has been fantastic. However, our favourites are the breakfast, the french toast, BLT and the roast beef sandwich.
AWESOME Breakfast! El Spero Breakfast hits the spot
We love this place!! My parents (from out of town) found it almost by accident and they come here for breakfast every time they are in Oakville. They also use it as a meeting place with other relatives from around the GTA. The food is truly excellent and the staff are friendly and helpful. The service is so quick you wouldn't beleive it, and the prices are good. Please try this place for a family restaurant - you won't be disappointed!!
