With three degrees under his belt, including one from the University of Australia, John Lowry is a man of the world. From 1992 to 2000 he worked as an executive in Hong Kong and China, but after so many years abroad, he decided to move back to Canada. “It was a natural move for me to get involved in our family antique business,” John says. “I wanted to be closer to my family and the country that I love.”
John’s parents, Jack and Carolyn, opened Hinchcliff & Lee Antiquities in 1990 in Port Hope, Ontario. A year after moving back home and working in the shop, John ventured out west to open a second location in Calgary. “Inglewood is a beautiful area,” John says. “Twentieth-century red brick buildings and a kind of edginess like Toronto’s Queen Street. I lucked out with the spot back then because now this area is known as one of the best Canadian neighbourhoods to live in.”
Visiting Hinchcliff & Lee in Inglewood is like going back in time. Filled with decidedly unique antique Asian furniture and accessories, every visit is a home decor treasure hunt. With an ever-changing selection of one-of-a-kind wares, visit often to find the perfect piece.
